The Bronx Defenders is a public defender non-profit that is radically transforming how low-income people in the Bronx are represented in the legal system, and, in doing so, is transforming the system itself. The Immigration Practice: Twenty years ago, The Bronx Defenders developed the model of integrated criminal defense and immigration representation. Our Immigration attorneys and advocates work closely with people throughout the pendency of their cases in both Criminal and Family Court to avoid and mitigate negative immigration consequences that may arise from those cases. Our Immigration staff represent people in deportation proceedings in both detained and non-detained settings, provide affirmative immigration services, and pursue community-based litigation and advocacy aimed at transforming anti-immigrant federal laws and policy. The Immigration Practice consists of over 60 staff members including attorneys, social workers, legal advocates, and administrative professionals.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director of Social Work, the Immigration Social Work Supervisor will represent a reduced caseload of clients while providing direct supervision, training, and professional development to social workers and interns in the social work practice; managing daily operations of the immigration social work team; and acting as a liaison between the practice, courthouse, community-based organizations, and the community.

Project Renewal’s mission is to end the cycle of homelessness by empowering individuals and families to renew their lives with health, homes, and jobs.
Work exclusively in shelter programs where clients may be experiencing challenges related to substance use, trauma history, or mental health. Supervise and support the program’s certified Peer Counselors in outreaching high-risk clients in various shelter locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn and The Bronx. Provide advocacy, care coordination, recovery and crisis intervention. Assist participants in developing communication skills and recovery supports. The Criminal Defense Practice has an opening for a Forensic Social Worker in its Staten Island office to provide client services. While working closely with the Criminal Defense attorneys, the Forensic Social Worker’s (FSW) primary role is to interview clients, and any collateral contacts, with the goal of gathering a life history to highlight mitigating circumstances such as mental illness, drug addiction, trauma and/or chronic poverty leading to a client’s involvement in the criminal justice system. The FSW will then advocate for an alternative to detention, an alternative to incarceration, or lesser sentence, based on mitigating factors. The FSW will evaluate clients and recommend a treatment program. The FSW will fill out necessary paperwork and provide supporting documents to facilitate a client’s interview with a program and/or to assure a client’s acceptance into a program. The FSW educates the client about treatment options, offers crisis intervention, and short-term counseling. The FSW provides essential information to attorneys about clients.

Marble Health works with school counselors to help kids struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and other conditions receive excellent therapy. Marble is in network with most Medicaid and commercial plans in NY and serves a diverse patient population across the state.
Our LMSWs can set their own schedule and work between 10 - 20 clinical hours per week in a supervised role supporting kids across aged 8 - 18 across New York.

The goal of the program will be to build a sense of community and connection between 25 young people with mental illness while assisting them to build skills needed to live independently.
